Akribos: Big disappointment. Amazon:Great customer service Sep 24, 2011
By clikewise I bought this watch new, but it arrived as a second hand watch. It was the first disappointment.
Amazon was great because I was contacted right away by customer service to solve the problem.
The watch was beautiful... and that's as far as it goes for the denomination "watch". There is nothing else in this watch could qualify it as a watch. It is just a beautiful thing on your wrist that happens to look like a watch.
Also, it is NOT water resistant AT ALL.
After a month wearing it, it stopped working.
Contacted Akribos, horrible customer service. If you contact them through their website, you will go no where. No one would answer you and you would get a "returned mail" from them saying that your email is rejected by their system. If you contact them by email, they deliberately wrote a wrong email address on their website so you will Never be able to reach them. They add a "R" in Arkib"R"os.
I found that out and got an email from them, telling me that I don't know how to wind the watch, but the watch is tightly wound! The problem is mechanical, the spring just popped out that's why it stopped working. Also it is A AUTOMATIC watch! Not a SELF WIND WATCH. It winds itself! Apparently even Akribos customer service does not their products well.
Since then NO NEWS from AKRIBOS. Very bad customer service!
Contacted Amazon and got a very quick response and also got a full refund. Amazon is great for customer service so please don't buy with any other sellers, NOT even the Amazon market place seller because you will not be dealing with Amazon but some individuals that sell things on Amazon.
With Amazon nothing can go wrong, and even if it did go wrong, Amazon is always there to help and find the best solutions for customers.
Yes buy from Amazon, but just Don't ever buy Akribos.
Amazon 5 stars.
Akribos Zero star!

Keeps good time and keeps on ticking, not like a Rollex Dec 29, 2011
By Bill J. from MI Purchased this watch in a white dial, AKR410WH, and it runs longer than my rollex movement, Operates for many hours after taking it off. Also purchased the AKR418SS, a mechanical skeleton watch, and very pleased. I'm not sure about the lesser reviews, but mine is honest, great buy. The website for AKRIBOS XXIV is [...].

Defective Product with Bogus warranty Sep 17, 2011
By Dmitriy If you want to choose Akribos XXIV watch in part because it carries a warranty, please be advised that Akribos XXIV does not honor its warranty. It's been 1 year since I made a request for warranty replacement and I still have not received a response.
Still ticking and looks gorgeous Dec 20, 2011

Looking over the reviews for this and other Akribos watches, I may be the exception rather than the rule, but mine is still working and keeping good time (took 3+ weeks to be off more than a minute). It looks gorgeous (better in person), is easy to read, has a more or less sweeping second hand (seems like 6 beats per second), and has both automatic & manual winding (some only offer automatic and having a manual option is great). The strap is OK (not great, but also not rubbish).
I mentioned it's easy to read, but do note that it becomes nearly impossible due to distortion from the crystal at obtuse angles.
Pros:
looks
cost (especially when you find a deal)
automatic and manual winding
keeps good time (for me at least)
a good starter watch
Cons:
reliability (based on other reviews)
price variance
mysterious manufacturer (seem to have no service support based on other reviews and I certainly can't find even a web site)
If you want to dive into the world of automatic (mechanical movement) watches, this is an inexpensive and solid all-around choice. A Seiko 5, Orient, or a better Invicta are likely upgrades from here.

Defective - did not work! May 04, 2011

"Be Original"
Bought as gift for my brother who lives overseas. The watch case had a sticky note on it saying "wrong item", which makes me think Amazon shipped me a returned item without checking it. Since this was an automatic watch, I did not check if it was working properly. I had a to catch international flight the same day. I found out later the watch did not work. How's it possible!!!
Terrible product quality and terrible service by Amazon.
