1881 Collection opens as a sweet floriental, which is not a good thing for me. However, it turns into something special in the heart. I get grapes & olive groves, plus a fresh woody accord that feels like the outdoors. It's too sweet & cold to be the scent of California wine country or sunny Italy, but it's close.
Overall, 1881 Collection is not as balanced as I would like. Heavy & rich in the opening & heart, I think it's best for cooler weather. The drydown is softer, and it's a clean, clear, woody, creamy base. What makes 1881 Collection unique is the all heart with olives & grapes. This is a grower ... the more I wear it, the more I love it.
I feel lucky to have snagged a small 1 ounce (30ml) bottle at an excellent price. I'm happy with the size of the bottle & the price I paid, and I'd advise against a blind buy on a larger size.
