5The Watch that Wouldn't DIE  Oct 22, 2009 By C. Goulet "(g"
I got my first G-Shock as a gift in 1980 when I was still in high school. It was a bit of a novelty at the time. Took it to Africa and back, twice. Banged it against tables and walls when people asked, "Is that thing really as tough as they say?". I went through 3 straps, but 20 years later (that's not a typo) when the casing around the watch itself finally cracked off, it was STILL RUNNING ON THE SAME BATTERY. No kidding. I've still got it in a box somewhere. The battery is dead now, but the legend of this incredibly durable, useful watch was by then well made. Recently, a terrific aluminum Swatch I was using deteriorated, and i needed another capable work piece. I was thrilled that Casio was still making these, even if they're no longer made in Japan. I'm so happy with this one. If you're looking for a watch that can really take a beating and just grin at you, this is the one. Enjoy.

5Great watch!!! color is a tad off though...  Dec 24, 2009 By A. Ansback
This is the fourth G-Shock in my collection (have teal and white G-Lide's, Databank 150) and is my everyday watch. The color in the photo makes it seem as if the screen is tinted yellow and the type matches but the actual watch is much more muted unfortunately. Regardless, the watch works well like my others and looks good.
+1 for the gold buckle!

5a fine g shock  May 14, 2012 By Jeremy
I already own the dw 5600e-1v so i wanted this gold version to accent the "silver" original. I really like the retro designs by g shock as they are aesthetically pleasing with their simple lines and clear displays. I will continue to purchase these fine watches.?

5My 2nd G-Shock: Not Because the First is Broken, but as Insurance in case the Battery Dies  Apr 02, 2012 By Will
My father purchased the original "tuna can" G-Shock DW-5600 as a bus driver back in the 1980's. Until a few years ago when the incandescent light bulb burned out, it worked perfectly. I received a Casio G-Shock DW-6600 back in Middle School as a birthday present over ten years ago. I have taken it camping, hiking, swimming, white water rafting, sea kayaking, mountain climbing, zip lining, SCUBA diving, geology trips, and every other activity where I would question any other watch's survival. The watch still works beautifully. There is a reason this is the watch of choice of EMTs, Police, Fire Fighters, soldiers, Army Rangers, Navy SEALs, the Delta Force, Team 6, etc., and the G-Shock has been flight qualified by NASA for manned spaceflight.

I purchased my second G-Shock, a DW-5600, not because my old 6600 is broken, but as insurance in case the battery dies. I like how the 5600 is thinner than my 6600, does not get snagged on long sleeves, and does not have the progress meter. However, I prefer my 6600's 5-button interface over the 5600's 4-button. For the stopwatch function, to reset the counter on the 6600, I can simply press the reset button. On the 5600, I must press the recessed adjust button, a much more annoying and trickier step.

My only complaint is with the G-Shock band. The original on my 6600 broke after a few years of use. I have replaced it with two other generic rubber straps, and a second G-Shock band, all of which have failed. I now have it on a 16mm NATO strap. This seems to be working better.
