4Still an excellent purchase for its price  Jun 28, 2008 By Dirk J. Willard "Dirk Willard"
This is a hand-wind watch. It is rare to find a wrist watch with this mechanism that is not an antique. The nylon band absorbed a lot of water during a morning run. Othewise, it is a good fit. The arms, especially the second hand is easily visable for those of use with failing eyesight.

Based on a limited measurement, 3 points, the watch is running fast by an average of 39 seconds per week (2 min. 36 seconds per month). The students t for a 95% confidence interval is 68 seconds maximum and 10 seconds minimum. All of these values are positive. The watch runs fast. This is an error which is probably unusual for those familar with quartz technology (+/- 2-4 seconds per month)

All in all, this is an excellent watch for working outside, hunting, even running.

The next tests will be time to unwind. It is performed by winding the watch, carefully, to maximum and then allowing it to wind down. With one sample point: 51 hours to unwind from maximum at 74 F.

Thanks.

PS:
For accurate time-keeping, wind the watch in the morning and at night. Otherwise, it will lose time if wound once a day.

After 18 months of use the nylon band is wearing at the edges. Otherwise, as time piece the watch works well.

After about 30 months of severe use, the first watch is done. Stick a fork in it!
Winding the watch has always been a little tricky. The main shaft grinds a lot, especially if you turn it full stroke. It works best if you gently roll it, moving it less than an 1/8th of an inch with every turn.
I wore it as my work watch every day for 3 months in the tropics. Tough watch. It was constantly wet from sweat or rain. The crown is not very resistant to scratches so it was in pretty bad shape after a few weeks. The accuracy severely declined during this duty. The watch band is noticably lighter than the new watch I purchased as a comparison. The accuracy is now so bad that after wearing it everyday for running and biking then everyday for a plant commissioning job, it sits on the shelf waiting for a last trip the the trash bin.
All in all, not a bad watch. As with most things, a bit disappointing in the end.

5The watch I looked for for ten years  Apr 28, 2009 By James B. Martin
Here's what this watch has that I like:
1. You have to wind it. The self-wind watches just sit on my dresser and stop.
2. It's easy to read. Even from a distance.
3. It's accurate. I'm guessing it's off by no more than 30 seconds a week.
4. The band is comfortable in cold weather and hot weather.
5. It's reasonably waterproof -- OK, not for scuba diving but OK if you forgot and wore it into the shower.
6. It lasts long -- my first one lasted 8 years until the winder broke and a new replacement cost me less than the repair at a watchmaker.
7. I have Rolexes, IWC's, Movados, but THIS is the watch that I use.

5Wind-up Watch  Jan 22, 2010 By B. Daniel
A good buy. This watch was a Christmas gift for my husband who insists on a wind-up watch - which is not that easy to find these days. I was a bit hesitant since I could not see or touch the item. Also it is quite inexpensive so I thought it might be a cheap piece of junk. Happily, my husband loves it, it keeps good time, seems to be of good quality and it's not a bad looking man's watch. It is very basic and unadorned, it has a regular 12 hour face and also military.

I would recommend this item if your are lokking for a durable wind-up watch.

3Made in China  Apr 05, 2011 By A. B. Systems "Thunderjet"
Received this product today. It is made in China, but oddly the metal tin the watch is packaged in is stamped:

Watch, Wrist
MIL-W-0836F-TYPE3
NSN 0423-00-120-1128
Mechanical Movement
General Purpose
Type, Vietnam

The MILSPEC and NSN nomenclatures intrigued me, so I called Rothco (the importer). They told me the MILSPEC, NSN, and other information printed on the package is for marketing purposes only and does not indicate the watch is manufactured to these standards.

I've not seen this marketing approach anywhere else (where fake US government markings are used to identify a product).

4Good watch at a good price  Oct 28, 2010 By KI
Purchased this watch about three months ago. Still works great. The case is a little worn, and the face of the watch has a few scratches on it, but it still runs. Wind-up mechanism works great: give it a few winds throughout the day, and it won't stop tickin'. Worn it swimming many times, in the the shower, smashed it on all sorts of trash and plastic barrels, got into a biking accident with it...and all there is to show for that are some light scratches on the face. I'm no watch expert; I'm a student. I just wanted something that was affordable, and would run while still fitting my usual earth-tone "style". This fits the bill. My friend who sells watches is actually jealous! Buy it!
