| | Description | About Orient: Orient Watch was formally established in July 13th, 1950 in Tokyo. However, the history of Orient Watch really dates back to 1901, when Shogoro Yoshida, the founder of Orient, opened a wholesale watch store in Ueno, Japan. Orient Watch has always focused on mechanical watches, primarily automatic watches with its own in-house automatic movements Orient was once part of the "Big Three" watch companies in Japan along with Citizen and Seiko. In the 70s, when mechanical watch companies faced hardship from the mass introduction of inexpensive quartz watches, Citizen and Seiko took the path of mass producing quartz watches, Orient stuck with what it did best, making mechanical watches. Today, Seiko owns a controlling stake in Orient. Orient, however, continues to make its own mechanical movements. For its quartz models, it uses Seiko's quartz movements. What sets Orient apart from other watch companies is really the fact that Orient has always been focusing on making its mechanical movements better and more reliable. It is unusual today to find a watch company that makes its own movement selling watches at prices offered by Orient. Most of the watch companies that do make in-house movements are big name specialized watch companies such as Patek Philippe whose watches ranges from tens of thousands of dollars to hundreds of thousands of dollars. To find a specialized watch company that uses in-house movements selling its watches at prices that are affordable to most people is truly refreshing. | |

Great buy Good Watch Sep 26, 2011
By Just A Buyer I have both the white and black faced dials . I like the white better since it is a little easier for me to read but if you like a black dial you won't go wrong here. I really like the rotating bezel inside the crystal for timing short events such as baking etc.. This watch appears to be very well made and has made me a fan of Orient watches . Everything functions perfectly and the gain in time is about 1 1/2 to 2 min a month for the white dial and maybe 3 minutes a month for the black dial I have . All automatic watches will gain a little time and these are exceptionally good about not gaining much. I have read many reviews on other brands costing more that list a gain of 2-3 min a day . It is easy to set the date, day, and time. The luminous markers work fine too . I couldn't be more pleased with it at the price . For those worried about sizing the band don't be. It has fairly common wedges that you remove to shorten the band . On the back of the band you will see arrows showing the direction to remove the wedge and each wedge has a small bump on it. If you have a small straight point screw driver put the end behind the wedge, turn left, then right until the wedge comes out enough to grasp with a small pair of needle nose pliers . Then pull straight out . You have to remove two wedges for the first link to be removed and then one for each additional ink. Just pay attention to how the links come off the wedge and when it's your size put the required wedge back in and it's sized. I removed two links from mine with no problem but was surprised that the wedges were as large and strong as they were . Both legs on these wedges go all the way through the band which makes the needle nosed pliers necessary to pull them out. I purchased an Orient watch for my wife and each wedge had only one leg and could be removed with my fingers once clear of the band edge . I included this description since one reviewer for the white dial model indicated their jeweler couldn't figure out how to size the band . Any Jeweler who can't figure that out shouldn't be in business. I also didn't want anyone to pass a great buy due to the ignorance of someone else . If you don't want to size the band yourself it can be sized by any reputable jeweler for a fee of course . I just like doing my own STUFF if possible . A lot of old retired people are like that . I'm very pleased with both watches and no batteries to buy .

Good Automatic Jan 19, 2012

I currently own a Orient Blue Mako and is my main watch now and I love it. These Orient CEM60001B watch is going to be a gift for my father-in-law. The watch actually looks a lot better in person than all the pictures I could fine in the net. Again I am in shock of the quality of Orient watches, it looks and feels like at list a $300 dollar watch. Now I am no expert or anything but after doing a lot of research comparing other watches, were they get their parts and such, I have realize that Orient is so far one of the best choices I have made in regards to buying stuff. I did a test with both the mako and these watch with my atomic watch(use mostly for sports). The test with the mako has been for almost three weeks with only 2 sec faster and the EM60001B in two days no change that I can tell yet. Again I don't know if the way I tested them is the right way but in my eyes that is more than acceptable. I like a lot the internal Bezel its just smooth and adds a lot of a modern feel coolness and style. It weight a lot less than the mako but it doesn't feel delicate. All that is left now that I inspected the watch is to wrap it for his b-day and surprise my father-in-law with it hoping he likes it as much as I do.
