Description

Have you ever wanted a watch that features a sporty design with mechanical functionality? Fortunately, Orient designed this watch for you. Since this watch has the best quality of a sports watch, it presents an astonishing looking model. You will notice that the watch contains features like a red second hand and the complimentary sporty band and case.

The dial for this watch has interesting attributes such as the 24-hour sub-dial (located at the 11 o’clock position), a date indicator (located at the 6 o’clock position), and a day sub-dial (located at the 3 o’clock position).

You will notice that this watch has a 2 level crown (time-setting knob). If you want to adjust the date, you have to loosen the crown to the 1st level. The time and the sub-dials correspond with the 2nd level of the crown. To change the day sub-dial, you must rotate the crown until the day hand pivots. Then, you bring the hour-hand back to the 12 o’clock position. After this procedure, you must turn the hand clockwise in order for the day to shift.

Another important attribute to this watch is the luminescent hands and hour indicators. This allows you to view the watch at any time of the day.

Since this watch is mechanical, the watch is run by the power in the spring of the watch. As the watch is being worn, it will naturally store power until it is stationary. This watch is also water-resistant of up to 50 meters.

The band for this watch comes in stainless solid steel. You will notice the sporty links on the watch. The design looks very intricate with the combination of both matte and finished links. The deployment clasp allows for protection so that the watch will not come off by accident. This series of watches comes in 3 models varying by dial color: black, blue, and white.

4Excellent Value  Nov 24, 2009 By Dae K. Yi
This watch is very well made, the sapphire "glass" face (not sure the term) definitely prevents scratches. I have hit the face of the watch a few times on accident, and while my previous watches would have gotten scratches for sure, this watch has not.

The watch seems very accurate, despite the +/- 40 seconds-a-day claim that the manual makes. I do wear the watch every day, so this may have something to do with it.

The watch is NOT a perpetual calendar, just to make that clear. That means that on months that have < 31 days, you will have to adjust the date.

I've learned that Orient is actually owned in large part by Seiko, so you can view this as being an off-brand Seiko watch if you like.

My only complaint I went over above. That the watch is not a perpetual calendar. I think the watch would be near perfect if instead of the 24-hour dial at the top left, that it was a month dial and that the watch was a perpetual calendar. Also some way of telling how much power the watch has would be very useful also. But those are minor, and I knew that the watch did not have those features on purchase.

Overall, I am very pleased with the watch.

EDIT - 5-14-10
I wanted to add to my review to inform people of what happens when trying to obtain repair service. I unfortunately dropped my watch, and one of the hands ended up falling off (it dropped to a cement floor). I figured it wasn't covered under warranty, so I asked if there was a local authorized repair shop nearby to get the watch repaired at. After some correspondence, I was asked to send it back via UPS, which I did. Once sent, and the tracking number relayed to them, it was VERY tough to get a hold of them in regards to status updates. Several weeks in, they said that the watch was dropped off at the porch, but they couldn't find it and would get back to me when they could. About 2 months later, after having the CC the Consumerist on emails to get a status update, they finally said that they never received the watch and that I needed to contact UPS.

Needless to say, the time to file a claim with UPS had passed.

I was pleased with the watch when I had it. I liked the look of it, and the features. I was not pleased with how they handled customer after-care. I was prepared to pay for servicing my watch, but was not prepared to have to deal with feet-dragging and overall incompetence for service.

If you never need any service done, the watch is great. It could very well be that I was unlucky, but either way, I was not pleased.

5Excellent watch,,Excellent buy  Apr 09, 2009 By R. Johnson
The Orient automatic watch is a fantastic buy. I own several automatic watches and this one by far is the easiest to set-up, great looking and comfortable. It is also really reliable. If you are thinking about buying a really nice automatic, this is the one to get!
