Description

“The combination of style and mechanical ingenuity embodies the nature of this timepiece.”

Orient's World Time models are in my opinion the best value Orient offers. The value of watches is typically judged by the complexity of the movement (mechanism inside the watch) along with the offered market price. You can tell just from the look of the dial (face) that the watch has many functions, which will be explained in full below. This watch is perfect for the world traveler, international businessman, or for those who demand more from their timepiece.

This watch is called the World Time watch, because the wearer is able to determine what time it is in every time zone. You will notice there is an array of city names on the outer rim of the watch in a circular form, which is called the outer bezel. The inner bezel, which is located just within the outer bezel, indicates military time (1 through 24.) The inner bezel can be adjusted by using the crown near the 2 O’clock position.

For example, let’s assume that Los Angeles is at 12:00 pm noon. Using the 2 o’clock crown, which adjusts the position of the inner bezel, we just line up 12 (noon in military time) with Los Angeles. Please note that this adjustment is only necessary for the first time you wear the watch. The inner bezel rotates naturally with time, so after one hour, the inner bezel will show 13 at Los Angeles. Now that we have set the watch, all of the times on the inner bezel relate to the cities on the outer bezel. For example at 1 pm in Los Angeles, the watch shows that Bangkok is at 4 am, Sydney is at 7am and Caracas is at 17:00 or 5 pm, etc.

Now that you understand the world time function, let’s re-explore the dial or the face of the watch. The elegant dial design captures all the information clearly, which is important for complicated watches. The hands for the time and hour indicators are luminescent, so you may read this watch in the evening without any problems. You will notice 3 other indicators by the 12 o’clock position, 6 o’clock position, & 9 o’clock position. These indicators respectively are: power reserve, second hand, and date indicators. Automatic watches are powered by motion, which means that it runs and stores energy in a spring as it is worn. When the watch is still, it will consume the stored power in the spring. The power reserve indicator lets you know how much power you have left in your spring in units of hours. Just like a gas gauge, you can expect to see the power reserve indicator to go upwards as you are wearing it and decrease if the watch is stationary. At full charge, Orient Watch will run 40 hours without motion.

The solid stainless steel case construction uses two crowns with a diameter of 42mm and withstands water depths up to 100m. The crown by the 4 o’clock position is screwed down to make sure water does not enter the case. The case size is large enough to get attention, while not sacrificing any comfort during wear. Typical clothing worn with this type of watch would be anything from formal wear to business casual. The dial colors are offered in white, black & a combination of black and white, which makes it very easy to match.

The glass used to cover the case is Sapphire Crystal. Sapphire crystal is more scratch resistant than mineral crystal & plastics, which is always an advantage. The crowns are located at the 2 o'clock & 4 o'clock positions. The crown on the 2 o'clock position pivots the time and date indicator. The other crown, as I mentioned before, adjusts the inner rotating bezel. The exhibition case back, which is located on the rear of the watch, lets the wearer examine the complication (movement) that is powering the timepiece. You will notice that there is no use of electronics or battery capacitors.

Orient is a “real” watch manufacturer because they only use their own mechanical movements for their production. Movements are simply the mechanism that allows a mechanical watch to function. This model uses 23 jewels in the movement design: gemstones are used in some of the moving parts of mechanical watches. They are used in sensitive parts of the machinery because they are durable and smooth, enabling for higher accuracy in timing.

Orient offers two types of bands for this model: metal and leather. The metal band uses a combination of matte and polished finishes, which gives a nice flow to the watch. A matte finish simply means a non-shiny surface, and a polished finish in a shiny surface. The clasp has a double locking, push-deployment buckle, which ensures that the watch buckle does not release unintentionally. The band uses a solid stainless steel construction and was left un-tapered, meaning the band's width is consistent in size.

The leather band is of course genuine leather and uses a deployment clasp, which means you don’t have to set the length of the leather band every time you wear the watch. After experiencing a deployment clasp on leather, it’s hard to go back simply because of convenience.

5LOVE THIS WATCH  Dec 17, 2008 By Joey Rahimi "Joey Rahimi"
I call this watch my "Baby Breitling" ...

I own a Navitimer, and this one gets more attention than it ...

It's also 1/10th the price, and is made with in-house movements while Breitling is made with Swatch movemements ... so that right there has gotta tell you something.

Seriously though, the watch is incredible, it attracts so much attention, and is beautifully done. If you're a world traveler, like me, this is the watch for you.

5Gleaming review for a gleaming timepiece  Sep 20, 2011 By Medical Resident
This watch arrived as advertised and is great for the world traveler and/or watch collector. Exquisite detail throughout the face and the skeleton/see-through back is a nice touch as I love seeing the automatic mechanism do its work. I have had it about a month now and I am not short on the compliments recieved. Great price for a great watch! And if I am not mistaken, there are only a few left on the market.
Bottom line, if you need a nice watch or are a watch collector, and are thinking about getting this particular watch, PURCHASE IT. You will not be disappointed.

4Orient World Time Watch  Jan 30, 2010 By S. Bradley
The watch turned out to be much more than I expected. I only wish that both crowns screwed down and locked. The one for the 24 hour, outer dial does not, and can be easily moved to get it off setting.

5Unique Look  Oct 10, 2009 By Aurora Basha "Collector"
I recently purchased this watch and was truly impressed with it. The finish on this watch is one of a higher end watch like a tag or hamilton and for the price you cant beat it .
I highly recommend it if you are a collector or just want a nice watch..

4Good watch but short of awe-inspiring  Feb 20, 2012 By ben
I like this watch, it looks good and appears to have good build (it's only been 3 months so inconclusive). I really like the time zone thing which is very helpful for heavy travelers like myself.

However, the looks are solid but not inspiring. Honestly, I got more comments from my previous $120 Citizen Eco-Drive watch than this one. Also, something that I didn't think about before, all kinetic-driven watches only have a rechargeable battery of up to 40 hours or so; this one is no exception, when I go on vacation or over the weekend it often runs out of batteries and I have to re-set the time, re-charge it, etc.

Overall quite satisfied but probably not the absolutely best bang-for-buck you can get.
