Alarming Dec 29, 2010
By Timeless I purchased this watch for the alarm function and the fact that Wenger makes quality products. The watch is well made and quite hefty but I returned it since the alarm is inaudible at either bedside or in a pocket. Moreover, it can't be heard more than a foot away from my ear. According to the Wegner service rep I contacted, the alarm level is typical for this type of product. This was very puzzling to me since the appearance and objective of the watch (with the protruding buttons) makes it clearly an alarm model, rather than merely a pocket watch with an added function. If you're looking for a new pocket watch that has a sturdy, quality appearance and don't care about the alarm, get this one. But if you need a pocket watch with an audible alarm for wake-ups or reminders, look elsewhere.

If you need a "REAL" alarm function.. DON'T BUY THIS WATCH. Sep 05, 2011
By Fidels Eyeglasses First, I really love the look of this so called Wenger 73015 "Traveler Alarm" Black Dial Pocket Watch. The black face is very good looking, it has a black rubber bumper like guard built around it to absorb shocks/drops etc, water resistant to 99 Feet, beautiful stainless-steel case, it has the date function as well as a small well built leg that can pull out from the back to enable it to securely stand on a flat surface/table etc. It's built like a rock and feels like it, plus I always wanted a real "Swiss made" watch, so I bought this to hang on my waist pack/back pack/any shoulder bag.
So what is the problem? The problem for me is the watch is called a "Traveler Alarm" and I bought it because it is supposed to have an "alarm". HOWEVER.... what Wenger calls an "alarm".... on this "Traveler Alarm" can not even be called a joke at $156.94. (which is what it cost me inc. shipping) Sitting in my quiet bedroom... I have to hold the so called "Traveler Alarm" 2 to 3 inches from my ear TO HEAR THE SOUND OF THE ALARM! I was in shock after it arrived, I set the alarm to hear it, and when it went off I thought it wasn't working.... until I held it 2-3 inches from my ear! The sound of the so called "alarm" is the tiniest "chirping" sound imaginable! I don't even think a dog could hear it! (and we know good a dogs hearing is)
It's really a shame about the alarm, as I really like the watch. But if I am in an airport restaurant or bar and I need this to go off to let me know my flight is coming up... FORGET IT. At a bus or train station... FORGET IT. In the street.... FORGET IT. If I have to hold it 2-3 inches from my ear in my quiet bedroom... then what is the point of spending $156.94 for a Swiss Made "Traveler Alarm" Pocket Watch!!??
Fortunately the seller SwissOutpost has a return policy.... but keeps the shipping charge and charges a "re-stocking" fee! So I'll get back my money... LESS $6.95 shipping to me... LESS $5.50 to send it back... and LESS a $10.00 "re-stocking" fee. Which obviously means I get refunded $128.49 of my original $156.94 spent for this watch.... better than nothing.
If you don't care about having a "real alarm" that is "AUDIBLE", it's a nice watch. If having an alarm that FUNCTIONS and is easily "AUDIBLE".... DON'T BUY THIS WATCH.
**Update as of Sept 5th.: As a Labor day special, I just bought a Black Casio Men's AW80V-1BV World Time Ana-Digi Data Bank for $19.56 .. free two day shipping. With "3 different Daily Alarms (1 with snooze)" YEA!! Later for Wenger Swiss "Travelers Alarm" watch.
***Update as of Sept 9th. : SwissOutpost the seller/shipper has told me they no longer charge a "$10.00 re-stocking fee" on returns, I have received a complete "full refund" of $156.94 including shipping. To be fair to SwissOutpost... they shipped lightening fast, have a very courteous Cust. serv.. It's really Wenger who makes/designs the watch is where the problem comes from.

Rugged May 20, 2011

It looks good. Runs well.Easy to set. However, I should have read the description. I really thought it was backlit. If you carry in your pocket, forget seeing the time in the dark. Hope I missed something in the instructions.

Buy here rather than in Europe! Feb 26, 2011
By Rebecca N This is a fantastic "pocket watch" for the modern guy who doesn't need the classic silver on a chain. I'm in switzerland right now and spent all day shopping and looking at watches for a special someone. This is definitely the one I want to get him. It's modern, shock resistant, waterproof. It's very very nice when you see it in person. I imagine the guy I'm buying it for clipping it to his backpack or keychain. Not a pocketwatch for a monocle wearing guy, but I don't know many of those. This really is a great pocketwatch for the 21st century guy who doesn't want to pretent he lives in the 1700's.
The store I was shopping in wanted 300 CHF (swiss francs). One franc is more than 1 dollar, so 300 francs is more than 300 dollars. So the cost of buying it here in a watch shop is TWICE the current amazon price. That's really cool to know. I am SOOOO glad I didn't buy it in the shop. I almost did because I loved the look, feel, and features. I would have been really annoyed to have bought it at twice the price.
I am a huge amazon fan. I almost bought the watch in the store because it was the perfect gift, but something nagged me and said I could probably do better just buying it on amazon. And clearly I'm right. 50% off. Awesomeness.
The rubber casing means this can take a real beating. That was clear just from handling it.

"Watch Out!" Jan 17, 2012
By hubbardcmc Purchased this for my husband, he likes that it is sturdy and easy to read. Agrees with others the alarm is not very loud, although not a deal breaker. Be aware the clip that comes with it is not worth using. Watch was lost from this clip the first time used, found on the floor at home! When I received this package I was very disappointed in the way it was packed. The watch was out of the box and the slip cover for the box, rattling around in the shipping box with one bubble bag to protect it during shipping? Instead of opening the watch box to check it out, I had to put it back together in its box to gift it. Come on Amazon, you can do better than this!!!!
